Average temperature: 30C. The Mexican holiday hotspot remains around 30C even in January, making it perfect for a long-haul break.

Almeria, Spain
Average temperature: 16-18C. With average 10 sunshine hours in January and only an average of 2 rainy days; the southern city of Almeria is a great location for some winter sun. There are plenty of things to do in Almeria too. You can visit the Alcazaba, a Moorish fortress perched above the city that was featured in Game of Thrones and the beautiful beaches of Cabo de Gata nature reserve are featured in Indiana Jones.

Athens, Greece
Average temperature: 13-17C. Combining sun and warmth in January with a cultural break, Athens is a fantastic destination and one of Europe’s warmest winter city breaks.

Cape Verde
Average temperature: 26C. South of the Canary Islands off the west coast of Africa, Cape Verde shares the Canaries’ dry climate but it’s even hotter. The islands offer a happy medium between a short flight to the Canaries or a longer trip to the tropics.

Lanzarote
Average temperature: 21C. Maintaining warm temperatures all year, Lanzarote is a great choice to get some sun without having to travel too far.
